BolagsAPI is a modern REST API for Swedish company data (företagsinformation). We make it easy to integrate official company information into your applications – without sales calls, long contracts, or complicated procurement processes.

## Why We Built BolagsAPI

It started when we – Love and David at Hugo & Friends AB – were building a CRM system and needed a company search feature. We contacted the established providers and received quotes that felt unreasonable for what is fundamentally public data.

*"How hard can it be?"* we thought. So we dug into Bolagsverket's and SCB's open data files, built our own solution – and realized that others probably had the same problem.

But we didn't stop there. We've enriched the data by combining multiple sources and adding our own calculations to provide as complete a picture as possible of each company. On that foundation, we – and our customers – can build a wide variety of applications and services.

The result is BolagsAPI: an API built by developers, for developers. No sales process, no long contracts, just an API that works.

## Our Data Sources

BolagsAPI is built on data from Swedish authorities and official registers. We normalize every source into one consistent API format:

- **Bolagsverket (Swedish Companies Registration Office)** – Basic company information, registration dates, organization forms, addresses, business descriptions, and annual reports (PDF/iXBRL)
- **SCB (Statistics Sweden)** – SNI codes (industry classification), tax status (F-tax, VAT, employer registration), and marketing block
- **Finansinspektionen (Swedish FSA)** – Licenses and permits, warnings and sanctions, short selling positions for listed companies
- **PRV (Swedish Patent and Registration Office)** – Over 600,000 trademarks and 15,000 patents with Nice and IPC classification
- **Other open sources** – Public datasets, notices, government portals, and verifiable information from the open web
- **Licensed and paid sources** – Complementary data we purchase or license when open registers do not provide sufficient coverage, freshness, or detail

We consider source authority, freshness, and traceability, and prioritize official sources whenever they exist. Data is updated regularly and coverage is continuously expanded.

## Open Data, Simple Access

Company data from Swedish authorities is public information. We collect, structure, and make this data available through a modern API so developers can focus on building products instead of handling complex data formats and integrations.

## Technical Platform

BolagsAPI uses a hybrid architecture. The core API, PostgreSQL, internal cache, and document storage run on our own physical hardware in Sweden. The service is then delivered through an edge layer that caches the website, static assets, and suitable responses close to the user. This combines fast delivery with primary data storage and processing that remain in Sweden.

We use a limited number of external services for payments, email, analytics, security, and selected AI features. We choose EU regions and EU data residency where available and minimize the information shared.
